I hope many of you have heard of Dexter McCluster. I am telling you, he could be the next great running back in the NFL. Coming off of a 1,000-yard season with the Ole Miss Rebels, this 5′8″ 165-pound back can really play like he is double his size. He also averaged over six yards per carry along with eight touchdowns. As for receiving, McCluster had 44 catches for 520 yards along with three touchdowns.
He came into the Senior Bowl weighing 160 pounds and gained 10 pounds after it. What really was a surprise was his performance at the NFL Scouting Combine. He ran a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash along with 22 reps on the bench press, but the bench-press was what made the difference. He did 22 reps of 225 pounds, so he was lifting something that was 55 pounds larger than him 22 times!
So this is what we have overall from Dexter McCluster: he is a small, fast, and tough running back. I see him falling between the second-through-fifth rounds of the draft. It has been said that the Rams and Packers have the most interest in him, and I can see that happening. The Packers can establish a one-two punch with Ryan Grant and Dexter McCluster. Since the Packers were more of a passing team, they can be more aggressive next year with strong runners. The same goes for St. Louis, whose offense was pretty much run by Steven Jackson last year. It can now improve more with a guy like McCluster. The Rams will also probably improve their passing game with some lineman, a quarterback, and possibly some receivers.
Dexter McCluster looks to be a special player in the NFL, I am sure of it.
